As summer approaches, many people may be feeling more conscious of their health and their diets. Students at Stan State and local community members share the 5-minute easy Detox Smoothie recipes that they will be using to reset their health this summer.

Detox Smoothies are very easy to DIY, especially when you are using your favorite fruits and vegetables. According to, although your body is capable of detoxing all on its own, detox smoothies are are an easy way to clean your body of toxins when you feel like you need the extra support. They are usually made of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Natalie Venegas-Hernandez (sophomore, Business), a Stan State student who loves makeup, food, and traveling, shared her family smoothie recipe the “Green Drink Smoothie” on social media via TikTok and Instagram and now shares this exact recipe with you. Venegas-Hernandez says, “This recipe was passed down from my grandma to my mom, and now to me. My Green Drink Smoothie is my go-to for a tasty healthy detox drink. I use this drink when my stomach feels uneasy or when I want to detox.”

A detox smoothie has other beneficial sides than just being a healthy smoothie. According to, detox smoothies are full of vitamins and antioxidants which help clean and support your immune system. It also helps hydrate your body and boost your metabolism with any fresh fruits or veggies.

Adding water is very important when it comes to detox and making your smoothie. It all has natural elements which help nourish your body and skin and help them have that better glow!

Venegas-Hernandez says, “I usually drink it in the morning to help me get started with my day.”

Natalie’s Green Drink Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 cups of orange juice
  • 1 handful of kale
  • 1 handful of spinach leaves
  • 2 small cut ginger slices

  1. Add 1 cup of water to a blender
  2. Add 1 handful of washed kale and spinach leaves
  3. Carefully slice and cut small ginger pieces and add to the blender
  4. Add the 2 cups of orange juice and blend
  5. Pour into a glass cup and enjoy

“My advice for someone trying out this drink is that you can put smaller or more portions of the ingredients to your taste. I, for example, add more orange juice so I can taste that more,” says Venegas-Hernandez. Adding more of your favorite fruits or vegetables can always make your smoothies better tasting. Starting a smoothie diet will help you change the way you feel and even look, and it's all on your favorite healthy greens.

Other than just detoxing, smoothies also help with weight loss. It all starts with what you eat in your early mornings. Irene Lopez, a local community member here in Turlock has been making detox smoothies for years. She had been taught how to make detox smoothies ever since she was a teen. “I still continue today on making my detox smoothies and also teach my kids. I want them to create this healthy drink so they remember me and how easy it is to make this smoothie,” Lopez says. Passing this family recipe is really important to Lopez. She wants her children to remember her by making this smoothie in the future.

“I have always liked to eat healthy," Lopez continues. She recommends giving the smoothie recipe a try. Below is her detox smoothie recipe.
