Stockton campus moving to one building

The California State University, Stanislaus-Stockton center occupies two buildings, Acacia and Weber. However, beginning in fall 2008, the Stockton center will centrally be located in one area, Acacia."The university has been trying to move out of the Weber Building for quite some time. The Weber building is old and very expensive to maintain," Dave Hamlett, director of the Stockton center, said.

Furthermore, the CSU Stanislaus Stockton Center shares the space with Langston Hughes, an Aspire Charter School. The school needs additional space to accommodate its increase in student enrollment.

"The Stockton center wants everyone to be centrally located under one roof, Hamlett said, "thus, having everything centered in Acacia Court will meet this goal. We will relinquish control of the Weber Building after our move and we should be out sometime during late July or early August."

The Grupe Commercial Co. has sent plans to the state for approval of an additional parking lot on the south side of Acacia to accommodate the students.

The Stockton Center will be moving its distance education classrooms, computer labs and nursing program into Acacia. Grupe is completing the renovations and is expected have everything finished by the end of May.

The Stockton Center will spend the summer moving the equipment and completing the necessary technology upgrades in time for the beginning of the fall term.
