Another important facet of homecoming is the Homecoming King and Queen choosing process.
"This year the name (of the title) has been changed from Homecoming King and Queen to Mr. and Ms. Warrior," said Rachel Garcia, ASI programs assistant.
The process begins with each club or organization wishing to participate nominates an individual. Garcia continued by saying that points are earned by the nominees when their club comes out in support at various homecoming events. Meanwhile, these same nominees, this year there are fifteen, bring their entourage and the turnout is normally good. Each day the candidates must participate in a different activity.
Monday kicked off the week with eighties day and the Mr. and Ms. Warrior day pageant. Candidates were unaware of the pageants events and were just as surprised as the student body.
Tuesday was hip-hop day and festivities included dancing with the faculty and or staff. Later that night , clubs and organizations participated in a float building event.
Although the candidates do not build the floats alone, the float parade is an integral part of the homecoming experience.
Wednesday, warrior red day, there will be a rally featuring homemade music videos featuring the nominees.
Garcia is anticipating the students will enjoy this new addition to homecoming week. The rally will be from six p.m. to ten p.m. in the warrior arena grass area. The float parade is from eleven-thirty a.m. to twelve-thirty p.m. in front of the classroom building.
This is the first year that students will get to vote for homecoming candidates. Voting takes place during the float parade.
Thursday, show up in cowboy boots for country day, this is the day of the actual homecoming basketball game and the pre game events featuring the homecoming nominees and the moment when one man and one woman are named Mr. and MS. Warrior. These events are in the warrior arena the pre game events begin at five p.m.
Friday wraps up homecoming week with the homecoming after party featuring casino games, karaoke, food, dance lessons, and a make your own music video station. Friday night is a free event for the students and is from six p.m. to ten pm. in the USU building.
The events are focused on school spirit and the student body, but funds are also being raised for two causes.
Garcia said that part of the proceeds from raffle ticket sales will go to the Make a Wish foundation, and part of the proceeds will go towards building a statue of the California State University, Stanislaus mascot, the warrior.
Garcia wanted to add that she thinks "homecoming is going to be a lot of fun this year" and that all the candidates are outgoing and excited.
