California State University, Stanislaus student Devin Beggs loves playing with his band in little clubs and bars that are really crowded and sweaty.
The band Stop Motion Poetry includes brothers Clark and Devin Beggs, and they play indie rock music that many can relate to. Clark lends his voice and piano skills to the band, and Devin plays the bass.
This summer, Stop Motion Poetry will be playing in cities such as Modesto, Santa Cruz, Mountain View, San Francisco and Sacramento. A full list of summer tour dates can be found on the band's MySpace page.
"If playing in a band is like a marriage, we've had way too many divorces," said Devin , in regards to constantly trying to find a permanent drummer and guitarist.
Stop Motion Poetry has been an important band in the Central Valley for about three years now, and has gone through many drummers and guitarists. Most recently Eli Lester and Ian Stambaugh were on their line-up.
Along with the obstacle of finding permanent bandmates, Stop Motion Poetry also has the task of paying off its new EP, "The Revolver Recordings." An EP is a CD that has more than just one single, but isn't long enough to be considered an album.
Mikal Blue produced three of their songs on the new EP. Blue has worked with artists such as Carrie Underwood and Five For Fighting.
The band's new EP will soon be on iTunes for purchase. Until then, avid listeners can buy the EP on their MySpace page for $2.49.
Stop Motion Poetry is probably best known for its song "A Walk Outside." The song begins with the piano, and then the rest of the ensemble joins in.
"A Walk Outside" is one of their oldest songs, getting more than 120,000 plays on MySpace. The song has also been placed in filmmaker Kedar Korde's film "X's and O's," which is mainly about friendships and relationships.
Because Stop Motion Poetry has been around for a few years, the band has accumulated many fans.
"(Stop Motion Poetry) is a great local band," said Daniel Greblos. "I've seen them play a few times and they put on an intense show."
