California State University, Stanislaus' students studying composition will be performing their very own compositions at the student composition festival at 5 p.m. May 13 in the CSU Stanislaus Recital Hall.
The festival will include a "compilation of what the students have been working on through the years," said Kristina Stamper, College of the Arts. Students in this festival have been "writing the pieces that will be performed," Stamper said.
The compositions are from a variety of instrumental techniques ranging from vocal to electronic as inclusive as last year's festival. This will display the talent of a range of students beyond one form of composition.
"There will be a 5 p.m. recital of works created by students in the sophomore 20th Century Techniques class, and a 7:30 p.m. recital of upper-division composition students," said Dr. Deborah Kavasch, Department of Music chairperson.
This will be the 23rd annual student composition festival at CSUS. The event will be an opportunity to enjoy the CSUS Music Department and experience student composition from many instrumental techniques.
It is important that the students "have the freedom to compose," Stamper said. This freedom will be on display for one evening at the student composition festival.
The evening event is open to the public. Tickets for the event are on sale for $8 general admission and $6 student admission.
