If you thought the election drama only existed in the national level, think again. A ballot recount is under way at the California State University, Stanislaus campus.
The dispute is between an even smaller discrepancy than Bush and Gore ever saw with only one vote contributing to the winner in the first ballot count.
The position under scrutiny is vice president external for the Associated Student Incorporate senate.
ASI elections were held last week Tues and Weds April 23 and 24 and the first electronic ballot count concluded that Tara McComak received one more vote than her closest contender Kristina Rather. There were four candidates for the VP External position.
"ASI definitely needs to do something different for elections. This is something they have been doing for a long time and if they are still having problems that's not good," said Rather.
All ballots were filled out on scantrons and then counted electronically. At the CSU Stanislaus campus, 606 ballots votes were cast campus and 20 at the Stockton campus. No other candidates have contested the ballot count.
The current unofficial winners of the election are as follows; President Andrew Janz, VP Financial Matt Ryan, VP External Erin Bowe, Senator at Large Eric Rodriguez, Senator for College of Undergraduates Megan Loghry, Senator for Athletics Jenna Kasch, Senator for College of Natural Sciences Peter Lindbeck, Senator for College of Business Jeff Brown, Senator for College of Education Alejandro Torres, Senator for College of Human & Health Sciences Ashli McClary, Senator for Humanities & Health Science Daniela Perez, Senator for College of Graduates Benjamin Gelbaum.
Five senate positions remain vacant. They are Senator for Enviroment, Senator for Stockton, Senator for College of Arts, Senator for Diversity and Senator for Residential life.
All of this information can be found outside the Game Room in the University Student Union. For questions about the vacant positions or the status of the ballot recount contact ASI at 209-667-3833.
