California State University, Stanislaus President Ham Shirvani, Associated Students, Inc. President Andrew Janz, Turlock Mayor John Lazar, and Turlock City Council members gathered at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4 to celebrate the debut of the new Monte Vista Avenue/University Way signs.

The group gathered at the corner of Geer Road and Monte Vista Avenue/University Way to see the signs go up at that intersection.

At the request of President Shirvani last summer, the Turlock City Council adopted "University Way" as an honorary, secondary name to be added to Monte Vista Avenue throughout the city limits. In addition, the mailing address for CSU Stanislaus changed from 801 W. Monte Vista Avenue to One University Circle.

The new signs and address are part of an ongoing effort to raise the profile of CSU Stanislaus and to build a University Community in the City of Turlock. President Shirvani said the changes are the first steps in enhancing the University's town-gown relationship with the City of Turlock and raising the profile and stature of CSU Stanislaus both locally and to broader audiences.
