Something many of the dorm residents have been warned against from the time of move in for The Village dormitories has come to pass.Currently the dormitories have been racked by a string of robberies.

From February 23 to this past weekend of April 6, there have been a total of six burglaries inside the dorms.

Things ranging from purses to undergarments were stolen, but for the most part the main thing which connected many of the theft reports were the pilfering of electronics. The most which have been on the target for the thief ranged from laptop computers, iPods, and video game consoles such as the Wii and Xbox 360.

The most recent victims of the spree, Matt Robinson and Matt Boga, stated that they were stripped of an Xbox 360 and a pair of controllers, two movies, a headset for Xbox Live, and four games. Boga stated that two of their roommates decided to take theirs back home therefore avoiding having a total of three systems stolen.

"It doesn't feel like the cops are doing enough," said Jon Bell, another resident and victim of theft which included his Nintendo Wii core system, several controllers, and one video game. This sentiment mostly stems from the lack of information being sent back towards him in addition to the police officers who investigated his situation giving him a card with the campus polices information on it.

In response to the crimes, the dorms have sent out a warning letting residents know about the crimes that have struck the housing community, also giving a set of guidelines to take precautions against further burglary.

In addition some people have also been subjected to mock break-ins where they would be given a small door sign telling the resident to be more mindful and keep their doors locked.

Sgt. Matt Dillon of the CSU Stanislaus Police stated that the investigation is ongoing. Coupled from the information gathered he stated the majority of the thefts occurred within the evening or late at night.

The criminal has yet to be caught, leaving room for further distressed villagers if the thefts persist.

Until the day comes when an arrest is made, the only thing which can be done is as Sgt. Dillon has said, "Just make sure to keep your windows and doors locked at all times you're away from your room."

Perhaps now that some students have had their video game consoles stolen, they might actually have to do some studying or have real conversations with other people. (Continued…)

This is more of an issue of safety than an issue of what items were stolen. The fact that someone can gain entry to a dorm room so easily is something that should be a top priority for campus police and the housing office. (Continued…)

The students should be happy that they weren't home at the time of the robbery. Assume for a moment that these weren't just some renegade student thieves. (Continued…)
