Cheer and excitement filled the air at the Spring Club Fair held on Wednesday, Feb 27, in the quad.
Almost every student organization at California State University, Stanislaus had a booth outside, but their goals for the fair varied. The fair gave a chance for new organizations to make their debut.
The travel-anthropology club by the name of Rigorous Inquiry of Sightseeing and Cultures made its first appearance that Wednesday afternoon. The main purpose of RISC is to raise enough money to send its members to other countries where they can experience different cultures.
"Since most students can't afford to travel, it's a way to help make it possible for them to do so," member Virginia Vandenberg said.
Their current planned destination is a small island called Cozume, found off the coast of Mexico.
RISC was born this year in 2008 and hopes to remain on campus for many years to come.
The Public Relations Student Society of America has returned CSU Stanislaus. This club is intended for students interested in increasing their public relations knowledge or for students who need help in this general area.
A new local sorority is attempting to get established on campus. Sigma Omega Phi is a multicultural sorority that started at CSU Chico in 1990 and has chapters in Fresno, Sacramento, and San Jose as well. Its motto is "Opening minds through culture, education and unity."
Many organizations used the fair as a way to promote upcoming events.
League of United Latin American Citizens, in collaboration with Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano/a de Aztlan (MEChA) and Phi Lambda Rho, will be sponsoring a Caesar Chavez event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 3 in the Carol Burke Student Lounge.
The Hunger Network is having its 24th annual canned food drive from Feb. 25 to March 21. All proceeds will be donated to the United Sumaritans Foundation.
The fraternity Nu Alpha Kappa, along with Associated Students Inc., will be having its spring blood drive March 12 in the Carole Burke Student Lounge. Free T-shirts from Blood Source will be given out to students who donate.
