In the midst of the second week of Spring semester, an electrical blackout at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 19 shut down the Stockton campus.

The Stockton campus is housed primarily in two buildings, Acacia and Weber.

The cause was apparently an electrical problem in the Weber Building, causing the power outage to last throughout most of the day and forced cancellation of day and evening classes, according to Dave Hamlett, Director of the Stockton campus.

The blackout created a challenge for some professors for whom Tuesday was the first day of class.

However, the blackout did not stop all professors from teaching. Instead of canceling classes, some professors taught at the front steps of the Acacia building while others met at the elementary school next to the main campus where they still held power.

The bigger challenge was for the televised classes that originate on the Turlock campus and are relayed to Stockton.

Although those classes were canceled, they were recorded and made available to students in Stockton.

Classes were back in session by Wednesday, Feb. 20.
