Don't register for the Signal next semester, seriously

You may be interested in working for the school newspaper. In fact, you may have already been approached and asked to join the "team" by enrolling in the Journalism Lab next semester. I absolutely hate writing for our college newspaper. In fact, as I look back over this past semester, I have found that this experience has been nothing but a negative one! Allow me to explain my three favorite reasons why everyone should avoid working for this paper.

First of all, if you make the foolish decision to join the journalism team you are going to be surrounded by absolutely amazing individuals. Who wants this? I have never met a more diverse, incredible, talented group of caring and intelligent people. I hate being overshadowed by so many cool people who make me appear to seem "average." What is worse is that most of these absolutely incredible people are extremely friendly and out-going. This means that no matter where you are on campus, a smiling member of The Signal team just may wave to you. I miss being able to mope around campus like a ghost.

My second reason for advising you to avoid this class is because of the insane topics they don't force you to write. We are genuinely encouraged to branch out and write articles on what inspires us. They ask us to discuss the topics affecting us as students. What happened to good old censorship? I want to be taken into dark, back rooms and physically threatened for not writing what my editor asks. If you are like me, this kind of freedom will do nothing but upset you.

My third and final reason for advising you to avoid this class is how it will set you apart. This experience is one of the best extracurricular activities you can put on your resume. I don't know about you, but I have no desire to make my resume stand out. I was hoping to attain the award for the most boring resume ever; now I don't even have a prayer for that.

All I'm trying to get across to you is this: unless you truly wish to be apart of something special, to make amazing friends, and to have one of the greatest experiences of your life, avoid enrolling in Journalism 3012 (20879).
